BASICS: Everyone involved with MAYODEV must know HTML and CSS. Every webpage is made using HTML which includes what is on the page. CSS is information about how that page should look, eg color and size of font. Once you have been made an administrator of this website, there are many site tours that will teach you how to run this website.

W3SCHOOLS provides an excellent set of courses to learn html, css, javascript, php and mysql. HTML: http://www.w3schools.com/html/     CSS: http://www.w3schools.com/css/default.asp

SETTING UP YOUR OWN VERSION OF THIS WEBSITE

To really become proficient as a webmaster, you will need to run your own version of this website. You need to followt the following steps.

1) Install virtualbox on your own computer: https://www.virtualbox.org/

This will allow you to set up ubuntu ( a complete operating system) running on your own computer. Once you have installed virtualbox, download ubuntu 14.04 server image:

http://mirror.pnl.gov/releases/trusty/ubuntu-14.04.4-server-amd64.iso

and use it to create a virtualbox on your computer. You will need to learn to use the commandline: https://www.codecademy.com/learn/learn-the-command-line

(Does someone know a better way to learn the commandline?)

then follow these digitalocean guides:

Installing and setting up Ubuntu: https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/initial-server-setup-with-ubuntu-14-04

Setting up apache: https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-set-up-apache-virtual-hosts-on-ubuntu-14-04-lts

Setting up php/mysql: https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-install-linux-apache-mysql-php-lamp-stack-on-ubuntu

Learn to install drupal: https://www.drupal.org/documentation/install

This is similar to setting up openatrium: http://docs.openatrium.com/documentation/installation

Make sure you use the latest version of OA: https://www.drupal.org/project/openatrium

INSTALLING A COPY OF THE MAYO SITE

You just need to download a copy of the database and website files.

Follow the restore procedure for the database: https://www.drupal.org/node/345225

But make sure you use this command to create the database: "CREATE DATABASE databasename CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_general_ci;" from: https://www.drupal.org/documentation/install/create-database

The files are just put into the right folder. You will need a copy of the setting.php file for the database login and password. Put that in the right location with the right file permissions.

The site should then be on your own virtual server! You can now test updating the site or modifying it.
